Greenpeace have launched a new initiative called the 'Black Pixel Project.' Greenpeace are encouraging people to install a single black pixel to their monitor to save energy - claiming that 1 million black pixels will save 57 watts of energy per hour.
The idea seems to be based on the thinking behind Blackle, the (unofficial) black version of Google that claims to save power. Google itself even went black last year to promote Earth Hour, however the black screen vs white screen climate benefits have been analysed at length and results are less than conclusive - Greenpeace even admit on their Black Pixel Project site that this is only for CRT and Plasma monitors (while the majority of the world's monitors are LCD now.)
